Kincaid Update
Greetings Singletrack Advocates!
I hope you have had an opportunity to sample the Kincaid Singletrack. There are now about 5 miles of trail that are open to ride.
We have had over 200 volunteers donate their time to hand finish the trails. Thanks to all of you who have come out for an enjoyable time of hand shaping the trail with your fellow mountain bikers! It’s great fun and I encourage everyone to come out for the remaining work sessions (see below).
The SCA Crew is nearing the end of the time scheduled to work with us. They have been doing a fantastic job! Between the SCA Crew and the volunteer work sessions we hope to have the majority of the system open to ride before the snow falls. We are opening sections gradually as they are completed. Thank you for your patience in riding only the open sections.
One additional note about the SCA Crew—they are professional trail builders and have enjoyed working on our project. You may have noticed that they are camped near the Jodhpur Trail in the vicinity of the old broken down Volkswagon Bug. The SCA Crew is permitted to camp here by the Municipality of Anchorage Parks & Recreation Department, so please do not report them to APD as a homeless camp (although they may appear to look homeless after a hard day of working on the trails). On the contrary, they have been putting in 8-9 hours per day and appreciate gifts of home baked goods. It takes a lot of calories to hand finish a trail!
Thanks, and happy riding!
Janice

Limited Opening
Greetings Singletrack Advocates,
This is a brief update on our progress out at Kincaid. The first 3 miles are open! And they are sweet! Although they were initially wide, the grass is already growing in on the edges and the tread is becoming established. The banked turns are being ridden in very well.
When we are finished we will have an estimated 9 miles of trail for all to enjoy. We will open sections as they are completed—the SCA Trail Crew and volunteers are out there now hand finishing the trails. Thank you for not poaching the unfinished trails.
UPCOMING TRAIL WORK OPPORTUNITIES:
Saturday, September 17th 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. — Meet at Jodhpur Trailhead
Monday, September 19th 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. — Meet at Jodhpur Trailhead
We will schedule more work days and let you know when. In the meantime, be sure to “friend” us on Facebook (Singletrack Advocates) to get the latest news and announcements.
CAUTION: The moose are enjoying the trails as much as we are. This being the rut, the bulls in particular are nuts. And the cows are really cranky. Look ahead! Also, the soil at Kincaid is very slippery when it’s wet. Exercise caution and ride within your limits.
Thanks!
Even More Volunteer Opportunities
Mon. Sept. 19 6:00 to 8:00 pm - join BP employees
On Wednesday, we opened another section of trail, giving you over 3 miles of finished trail to ride. The best place to get onto the trails is at the stadium area. Go through the tunnel and turn left to climb a small rise. The entrance is just past the beginning of the Lekisch Trail. Please note that the trail is closed beyond the orange fencing areas. Please respect the closed sections.
