Quick! Name your biggest accomplishment this year. For us, it's undoubtedly the new singletrack trails in Kincaid Park. Of course we had a little help from you, our dedicated volunteers. Together, we built 9.1 miles of singletrack, some of which connects trails people have been riding and hiking for years; most of it entirely new. Reviews are already coming in, including a few letters to the editor in the Anchorage Daily News (1 & 2). Sounds like people are enjoying the trails.
For you statistics lovers out there, here are some numbers from our lead instigator, Janice:
Non-duplicated volunteers for trail work days: 241
Volunteers (duplicated) for trail work: 495
Volunteer Hours: 1,277.50
Trail work hours: 53
Total Value Volunteer Labor: $26,635.88
And these numbers don't include all the volunteer hours of the project managers, including Lee, Joe and Ryan (the guys who brought this idea to us over a year ago) or the STA Steering Committee. It doesn't include the paid trail workers like Jon Underwood or the YEP (Youth Employment in Parks) crew, Brian Vaughn (our crew wrangler) or the SCA (Student Conservation Association) crew that joined us in September.
It takes an entire community to make new trails happen and now that the ground is freezing up, we want to thank you, our contributors and volunteers, for your support and hard work. Because of your dedication, we'll have these trails for years to come. Thank you.
ps: We'll have a map for you soon! Stay tuned.

We are getting close to finishing the Kincaid Singletrack and need your help to finish before snow flies. The next volunteer session is this Sunday, Oct. 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We will meet at the Jodhpur parking lot. We'll have some volunteer tools, but please bring your own loppers/rakes in case we need more! Thanks for all of your hard work!

Help is still needed to finish the Kincaid Singletrack! We'll have a work party from 6 to 8 p.m. this Wednesday, starting from the Jodhpur Trailhead. Please bring extra tools (loppers, McLeods, Pulaskis) because we now have only about 20 volunteer tools available. We'll be working on the section just north of Jodhpur parking lot, so stop by even if you're running late.
